On the way back from a great day with the guys from 6R4.net, at their recent 6R4 Curborough Track Day I got a call from Motoring Presenter and fellow twitter addict Paul Woodford, saying Julian Barter of 70’s Road Sports at the Historic Sports Car Club had some spare tickets, would I like to come along. I the words of Dan Aykroyd “Does a bear sh*t in the woods?” well yes it does, and yes I would!
As a guest of the Barter’s it was fitting that they came 1st (Charles Barter, Centre. Datsun 240z) and 3rd (Julian Barter, Left. Lotus Europa) in their race, with friend Jim Dean (Right) coming in 2nd in his Europa. A great bunch of guys with some stunning cars. Seeing great racing with such well prepared 70’s classics was a real pleasure especially with the Europa being a favourite of mine.
Great racing with such well prepared 70’s classics was a real pleasure especially with the Europa being a favourite of mine. A wide variety of racing classes meant there was everything from James Hunt’s F1 car to TVRs battling it out against Austin Healey 3000s, watching these monsters tip toe over Paddock Hill Bend, drifting wide then blasting up the massive Hailwoods Hill and 180 back down at Druids was great to watch but must be some experience to drive.
The whole event had a relaxed atmosphere, as long as you were respectful of the crews working on their cars and keeping out of their way I was able to walk around the paddocks, it’s great to see the cars up close and the prep work going on.
