The RAC Rally of the Tests returns this year, and what a location to start. Shelsley Walsh being oldest active motorsport venue in the world.
The Rally, run by HERO Events begins in Bournemouth and will run one of the rally’s 33 driving tests at the famous hillclimb on Saturday 5th November, followed by the day two finish in Chester.
Shelsley Walsh is a great spectator venue with good access all the way up the hill. The 328ft elevation up the climb will give your leg muscles a workout, with a very respectable 1 in 6 at it’s steepest.
There will be some stunning cars including ex-works machines, 6 EMO Replica used by Paddy Hopkirk, winning the 1990 Pirelli Classic Marathon and BRX 852B Austin Healey used by Paddy and Ranuo Aaltonen in the 1960’s.
HERO Events chairman Tomas de Vargas Machuca said: “For classic car fans and those interested in motorsport, this will be a rare opportunity to see these period vehicles competing on what is widely regarded as one of the most iconic venues in the world. First used in 1905, Shelsley Walsh still uses the exact same hill and route today, and is spoken about in reverent tones by those who know its history.”
